My research interests are oriented towards questions of spatial development linked with transformation processes towards sustainability. Starting from the perspective of urban and regional planning as well as spatial planning issues, I am interested in spatial processes in theory and practice - in other words, the planability of liveable futures in cities and regions. On the one hand, this includes a practice-oriented and transdisciplinary research perspective, characterized by the development of joint research questions with local people and a joint learning process. On the other hand, I am interested in the scientific debate about the discipline of spatial and environmental planning, its theoretical foundations between natural and social sciences, its normative and ethical orientation and what is understood by planning theories.

My research approaches are represented in my research focus, my research projects and publications.

For more than ten years I have been teaching now in different courses and at various faculties (environmental planning, landscape architecture, architecture, territorial development, spatial planning), in German, English and French, for students from Germany, Europe and beyond. Thematically, I cover a wide range of topics in my courses, from an in-depth understanding of spatial and environmental planning, instruments and approaches, to methodological and theoretical foundations of planning sciences, to a comparative view of European planning cultures.
